Broadway Bubble Mosaic
The Broadway Bubble is both a laundromat and a vital community hub in Kingston. Laundry is a great equalizer, bringing together people from all walks of life in a shared space and time. Kingston Midtown Rising taps into this moment of connection by offering classes, workshops, and resources that reflect the needs and interests of the community.
Recently, Annie Mesa, a Kingston based artist and KCS instructor, launched a collaborative project at the Bubble: a motivational mosaic designed to uplift and welcome all who enter. In a time when many—especially immigrants—are feeling increasingly unwelcome, Mesa aimed to create an experience and artwork that fosters care and belonging. Participants were invited to inscribe a phrase in clay that they would offer to a friend going through a hard time. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Bubble guests of diverse ages and backgrounds shared beautiful messages of wisdom, love and strength.
The project has evolved into weekly bilingual classes taught by Mesa and Mercedes Garcia from KCS, for which the studio continues to support with our firing facilities.
