Kids & Families
Kids can play with clay and learn the basics of hand-building with clay while using their imaginations to make what they want! They'll be using their hands to develop motor skills, playing and problem-solving to develop creative thinking, and sharing tools and socializing. They will be able to work in depth on bigger projects over time and finish their pieces with glaze, which is not possible in our other kid friendly programming. They may try out the wheel with some assistance, but the majority of the class will be hand-building at a table.
Age recommendation: 6 to 12
Thursdays 4:00 to 5:30 pm
(monthly, on First Saturdays)
Come play with clay at Kingston Ceramics Studio between 2:00 and 4:00 pm on first Saturdays each month. Learn the basics of hand-building and try out the wheel with some assistance. Use basic techniques of throwing, pinching, coiling, slipping and scoring to make a project from your imagination! Reservations are strongly encouraged, space is limited to 12 seats. Age recommendation: 5 and up, adult supervision is required for young children. Work will be ready for pick up at the next Kingston Clay Day event. Although you can make as many things as you like, your fee includes firing for one piece under 6 inches in all dimensions. Firing extra pieces is $5/apiece.
Want to celebrate a birthday? Or have a scout troop earn their pottery badge? Or just have a fun day with your family together? Throw a ceramics party! Your group will hand-build and work on the pottery wheel and decorate what you make. We will glaze your work and it will be ready for pick up in 3 to 4 weeks. Shipping finished projects out of town is possible for a (shipping, insurance, and packaging) fee. Recommended age: 6 and older
Kids as young as 5 years old can make projects from clay after learning a few simple hand-building techniques. Older kids are mesmerized by the pottery wheel! Choose the option best for your child and they will have a great time learning about clay and how to make ceramics at the studio. Projects will be completed with a glaze of their choice and ready for pick up within 3 to 4 weeks of your lesson. Recommended age: 5 and older
If you have a pacemaker you should not work on a Shimpo wheel.
